Happy facts: surprising results from happiness research
Current results from happiness research prove:
There are only a few factors that make a happy life:
- Sound Health
- Good relationships
- Personal freedom
- Satisfying job
Nothing is more important than good health. Both physically and mentally. Good health IMMEDIATELY has a noticeably positive effect on your perceived happiness.
A strong social environment is often cited as the second most important happiness factor. Anyone who has good friends and feels comfortable in their environment can usually be found very far on the happiness barometer.
The more a person feels that they are free and independent and that they can do exactly what they want, the happier they are. Personal autonomy has a huge impact on the perceived happiness.
Someone who does a satisfying job is much happier than someone who just “just does a job”. Also interesting: The more people can bring their own skills and competencies to the job, the happier they are with it.
ATTENTION: Material things are relatively irrelevant!
And how exactly you get this positive inner attitude now, I'll tell you in the next section:

1. Happiness in the morning drives away grief and worry
This is my number # 1 insider tip to start the day full of happiness in the morning.
Try this exercise first thing in the morning when you wake up. And I promise you, you will start the day very differently.
- As soon as you wake up, lie there with your eyes closed and feel inside yourself for 2 minutes
- Feel how good your body feels
- Be grateful that you are rested and that you are doing so well
- Take a few deep breaths in and out of your lower abdomen
As you breathe in and out, you can also make a relaxing “Mhhhhh” sound. Feels absolutely awesome! Try out!
2. Make the Grinning Cat
Your body is connected to your feelings.
When you feel good, you smile. And your body remembers that. You can now use this fact in a targeted manner to quickly generate good feelings.
Grin as widely as you can for a minute.
Smile so that your lips are wide apart. As a support, you can also clamp a pencil between your teeth and your lips should not touch the pencil.
And after that 60 second smile, see how you feel now. I bet: a lot better and happier than before.

3. The focus technique against bad thoughts
Happy people have one thing in common: They focus more on the positive things in their life.
You can do exactly the same thing with this simple positive focus technique:
Every now and then, pause briefly in everyday life and then consciously ask yourself:
What is exactly HERE, exactly NOW, right now, beautiful about my life? Take your time until you think of something.
If you are really cool, then you can also get yourself a small positive diary and write down all the beautiful moments that you will notice again and again in everyday life from now on (and read through again in the evening before you go to bed)
Here you will find an online happiness diary in which you can write down your 3 most beautiful moments of happiness every day. The advantage: It automatically reminds you of your entry by email every day! To the online lucky diary
4. Don't be kinked: The happy posture
Your body is very directly connected to your feelings.
If you are fine, then you have an open and free posture. If you are not doing so well, you tense up and your posture buckles.
During the day, consciously straighten yourself up again and again: head up, look forward, pull shoulders back and down, open the chest area and let your breathing flow nicely.
It's best to do this exercise NOW. Raise yourself consciously NOW (you can also do this while sitting). And then look what a huge difference this little exercise alone makes.
Put your arms up like you've just won a great victory! This movement alone causes your body to release more happiness hormones.
5. The frog method
Another amazing result from happiness research shows:
Hopping makes you happy!
By jumping up and down, firstly, the body is better supplied with blood and the circulation gets going, secondly, the body releases more of the happiness hormone serotonin.
If you have a trampoline, hopping around for 5 to 10 minutes a day is enough to push your happiness level up.
But even without a trampoline you can do a little hopping round anytime and anywhere. How about a little hop on the way to work or when going to the copier, for example?
6. Let's dance: Why dancing makes you happy
Surely you know the saying: "I could dance with happiness."
We'll change it a little now. Now it is said: "I dance for my happiness!"
Because just like jumping, happiness hormones are released when dancing. In addition, the music puts you in a good mood when you listen to your favorite song ...
When you need a big boost in a good mood, turn on your favorite music and dance!
And it doesn't matter what your dance style is or where you are at the moment. Maybe you even dare to dance in public and infect other people with your good mood?
7. Who you should avoid like the plague
I keep saying this:
Avoid negative people whenever possible. Your whole happiness in life depends on it!
Oh and yes, of course that also applies to family members who are not doing you good and who only drain your energy.
NOW, think about which people you'd better avoid because they simply cost you too much energy.
And then consciously get out of the way of these people and instead begin to surround yourself with the people who will take you further and who give you energy.

8. The positive power environment
A wise person once said:
"You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with".
And this sentence is absolutely true. Your environment shapes you significantly and can give you massive amounts of energy and feelings of happiness if you have the right people around you. Therefore:
Get out a piece of paper and a pen and write down which 5 people you have had the most contact with so far and which 5 people you would like to have more contact with from NOW.
Write down which people you consciously want in your life from today onwards.
Take the first step there today. Contact these people via WhatsApp, Facebook, email or post and let them know that you would like to do something with them or that you would like to see them more often.
9. The magic of gratitude
Studies have found that happiness isn't so much about HOW MUCH you have of something, but about being able to truly appreciate WHAT you have.
That is also the reason why many people in poor countries consider themselves much happier than we in the western world, which actually has everything.
Buy a small journal and place it on your bedside table. If you go to bed from now on, write to yourself three things for which you are grateful today. These can be very small things. The smaller the better.
Start today and I guarantee you will feel a lot happier in just a few days.
Alternatively, you can also use the online lucky diary. The advantage is that it reminds you of your entry every evening by email.
10. THE panacea for stress and bad feelings
If you already know this page a bit, then you know that I am a gigantic I am a fan of relaxation.
Because relaxation is THE panacea for negative thoughts, stress and bad feelings in your body.
Consciously relax in everyday life:
To do this, inhale deeply into the lower part of your stomach (through your nose) and then slowly and fully exhale through your mouth. Relax your whole body, starting with your neck, over your shoulders, your back, your arms, your hands and so on. Do this conscious relaxation until you feel a lot better (this usually only takes a few seconds if you really concentrate on it).
Do this exercise over and over. She is amazing!
Start meditating regularly! The more you do this, the more relaxed - and therefore automatically happier - your overall condition becomes.
11. Happiness lurks between the past and the future
Results from happiness research show:
Happy people live more in the here and now.
They don't think about the past all the time, and they worry less about the future. Do the same to them and live more in the here and now. This exercise will help you:
Whenever you catch yourself in everyday life with your thoughts in the past or worry about the future, become aware of these thoughts and interrupt them purposefully.
Take a few deep breaths into your stomach (you can also close your eyes) and then tell yourself:
The past is gone and cannot be undone. The future is yet to come and I have no control over it.
That's why I let go of both NOW and come back to this moment - the only moment in which I can actively shape and enjoy my life.
Then breathe out deeply, open your eyes and consciously keep your focus in this moment.

12. Off to bed: What you should absolutely avoid before going to bed
This is a hugely important point, and most people disregard it ...
This little thing can contribute more to your well-being than almost anything else.
What happens if you watch the TV or spend your time in front of the PC until just before bed?
Answer: Your head will be busy processing these images all night and will find it difficult to relax and regenerate. Don't do this to yourself! Instead:
Bring your head and body down. Let go of all the stress that you have accumulated during the day and your sleep will be much more restful.
Your body will thank you and the next day you will wake up with a completely different energy and feel a lot better. Promised.
13. Bonus Tip 1: Spend time with people over 70 & under 6 years old
Why? Because these people automatically live more in the here and now, worry less about everything and are much happier as a result.
Whenever you have the opportunity, watch such people.
Especially toddlers. They are naturally happy. They don't worry about the future any more than they do about the past. You just live. Exactly here. Just now. At this moment.
And because of that, they enjoy life on a completely different level. Be inspired by it and use this energy for yourself to think less and LIVE more.
14. Bonus tip 2: With serenity to happiness
Studies show: composure is another important key to happiness.
If you react calmly to stressful, angry or other negative situations, you will gain significantly more joie de vivre.
