How many zeros in 1000

The natural numbers and their representation

Numbers:

N = {1,2,3,4,5,6 .....} set of natural numbers
N0 = {0,1,2,3,4,5 .....} set of natural numbers with zero

Place value system:

In the place value system, each digit is assigned a value in a number according to the position in which it is located.
In the number 1832, the number 1 is the "thousands", the 8 is the "hundreds", the 3 is the "tens" and the 2 is the "one".

Large numbers, powers of ten:

Pronounced means:

1000 = thousand
1,000,000 = million (6 zeros)
1 000 000 000 = billion (9 zeros)
1 000 000 000 000 = trillion (12 zeros)

Powers of ten are used for large numbers.

10² = 10 • 10 = 100
10³ = 10 • 10 • 10 = 1000
106 = 10 • 10 • 10 • 10 • 10 • 10 = 1 000 000
1012 = 1,000,000,000,000 = trillion
1015 = Billiards
1018 = Trillion

Numbers like 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 etc. are called step numbers.

Other large numbers can be written like this:

6,000,000 = 6 • 106 (6 million)
250,000,000,000 = 25 • 1010 = 250 • 109 (250 billion)

Round:

After the digit to be rounded to, the digit 0,1,2,3 or 4 will be
rounded down, otherwise rounded up.

So 54,329 rounded to tens of thousands: 50,000, rounded to thousands: 54,000.

Representation of the natural numbers:

Tables or charts are used to clarify data. The following example shows the population in thousands of the city of Dresden in different ways.
