What is healthier strawberries or grapes
Strawberries - small power fruits
From mid-May to August you can get and enjoy the small, sensitive power fruits everywhere. Of course we are talking about strawberries. Not only does it have a wonderfully sweet taste, it also enriches body and soul with its incredible abilities that protect and care for our skin, organs and hair. So it's no wonder that strawberries were used as a medicinal plant as early as the Middle Ages.
Origin of the strawberries
Strawberries were already eaten in the Stone Age, but not in the form we know them now. Because back then, today's strawberry did not exist, but its relative, the wild strawberry, was widespread. This type of berry is much smaller, darker in color and stronger in taste. Otherwise it is completely similar in shape and structure to our local garden strawberry and can still be cultivated.
Today's strawberry, which can be bought in supermarkets, is a mixture of two imported varieties: the chile and the scarlet strawberry. Both probably came to Europe in the 18th century and were then accidentally crossed. The resulting plant is called fragaria x ananassa, also called pineapple for short among botanists (while the yellow tropical fruit pineapple is usually called Hawaiian pineapple). The garden strawberry, as it is also called, prevailed in contrast to the wild strawberry, as it bore very large fruits thanks to the chile strawberry and inherited a strong aroma from the scarlet strawberry.
What kind of fruits are strawberries?
Strawberries are generally referred to as fruit, after all they taste wonderfully sweet and fruity. The red part of the plant that we enjoy is not the actual fruit of the plant, but the many small seeds on it. The plan is to grow new strawberry plants from these seeds. The red fruit serves on the one hand to attract animals, which eat the strawberry, excrete the seeds and these are thus brought to other places. On the other hand, the fruit will eventually spoil, causing the seeds to get to the ground and nestle there. From a botanical point of view, the strawberry is therefore one of the false fruits, more precisely to the common nut fruits and not to the berries or fruit. Raspberries and blackberries are also among these false fruits. Real berries, on the other hand, include gooseberries, blueberries, grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers and even pumpkins.
What vitamins and antioxidants does the strawberry have?
Are Strawberries Healthy? How much can or should you eat of the little fruits? Are there really as many vitamins in it as they always say? The strawberry is not only incredibly delicious and a symbol of love, passion and summer, but strawberries are actually healthy - very much indeed! Because the berries are full of vitamins, minerals, phyto-nutrients and antioxidants! They even have more vitamin C than oranges, namely 59mg per 100g (oranges are around 50mg / 100g). One hundred grams of strawberries can cover almost the entire vitamin C requirement of an adult. In addition, the small fruit has many B vitamins, hardly any calories, since it consists of 90% water, and many minerals such as potassium, iron, manganese and iodine. Folate is particularly important for humans, which the body cannot produce itself, but ours is needed for daily needs.
Attention: Folate is not folic acid! Folic acid is made synthetically while folate is the naturally occurring mineral. The two substances differ in terms of absorption capacity and bioavailability, with folate (as a natural substance) being better absorbed.
Folate is essential, especially during pregnancy, in order to provide the child with sufficient nutrients. In addition to numerous minerals and vitamins, strawberries are also rich in antioxidants that protect our body from free radicals. The pseudo berries are teeming with anthocyanins, which are supposed to protect against cardiovascular diseases. When asked whether strawberries are healthy, one can clearly answer with yes.
Strawberries - health benefits
Due to the many healthy nutrients in the power berry, the strawberry has an excellent health effect and was already used as a medicinal plant in the Middle Ages. Pastor Kneipp already said that a tea made from strawberry leaves is good for your health and the Swedish botanist Linnaeus even said that the strawberry had cured his gout.
That is why you should eat more strawberries
Lose weight with strawberries
If you want to lose weight, you don't have to do without sweet strawberries in summer. On the contrary, take it courageously! Due to their high water content, the berries have hardly any calories, but plenty of vitamins and nutrients. The large amount of fiber helps the intestines and the small fruits also increase the hormone level, which is responsible for regulating the feeling of hunger. The red berries fill you up and avoid food cravings, because the fruit's own sugar is only slowly broken down by the body. The strawberry's antioxidants also fight inflammation in the body, which hormones in the body can block. Because in the event of an inflammation, the body first sends all the expendable forces there in order to heal it. So these hormones can no longer help you lose weight. Strawberries counteract this and thus optimally support diets and purification cures.
Snacking on strawberries while pregnant!
Adequate intake of all important nutrients, vitamins and minerals is essential during pregnancy. Since the strawberry has a particularly large number of them, especially the important folic acid and a lot of iron, it is an excellent snack for pregnant women. Our body cannot produce folic acid itself, which is why it depends on us ingesting it through our food. The strawberry contains a lot of folate (the naturally occurring folic acid) and can thus ensure the healthy development of the unborn child.
Eating strawberries if you have diabetes?
The red strawberry is excellent for type 2 diabetics because it has a low glycemic index of 30 to 40. This is because they're 90 percent water and half of their carbohydrates are simple fructose. This prevents the blood sugar level from rising rapidly. This counteracts an increased insulin level. In addition, strawberries have a lot of fiber that the body cannot digest. In this way, they support a healthy intestinal flora, because they quasi "clean up" and take all the accumulated dirt with them. Fiber is like exfoliating the intestines, if you think of it that way. In addition, a high-fiber diet counteracts the risk of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The power fruit also helps against pimples
You can also get beautiful skin and hair through strawberries. Due to the salicylic acid it contains, the high vitamin C content and the famous antioxidants, the small fruit helps to remove dead skin cells, prevent inflammation (e.g. pimples) and can even protect against UV rays. But please always use sun protection. The anti-inflammatory effect of the nutrients can also delay hereditary hair loss and prevent fungal growth on the scalp.
Strawberries for gastrointestinal complaints
As you can see, strawberries have enormous health effects and are very well tolerated, mostly even by fructose intolerants, as they contain little fructose. They are easily digestible, tasty and extremely nutritious. But even if the stomach rumbles, the strawberry plant can help. To do this, you brew a tea made from strawberry leaves, which Pastor Kneipp recommended. The strawberry leaf tea helps with mild diarrhea and other stomach and intestinal disorders, such as flatulence. It should also have a beneficial effect on bladder infections and support the healing process.
Conclusion: Strawberries are in no way inferior to their relatives, raspberries and blackberries, and can be enjoyed by young and old without hesitation. The red fruits also help in body and hair care for radiant, healthy skin and shiny hair, as well as for white teeth. When buying fresh, you should rely on regional organic products in order to counteract pesticides and long transport routes, as the berries no longer ripen after the harvest.
