What is a Young SEO Title

Tutorial: Yoast SEO - Search Engine Optimization with WordPress

Yoast SEO is a plugin for WordPress that can be used to optimize pages and blog posts for search engines like Google. Before I go into more detail in this article about the functionality and tips on how to use it, I would first like to address the question of why you need a tool for search engine optimization at all.

Why do you need a search engine optimization tool?

It is no longer a secret that websites and blog posts should be optimized for a keyword. But why do you need a tool like Yoast SEO? Isn't it enough to use the keyword sensibly several times in the right places in the text?

If you are already experienced in online copywriting, then using keywords correctly may be part of your flesh and blood. For the less experienced readers, here is a brief overview of where the keyword should be placed in order to prepare a post or page optimally for search engines:

  • At the beginning of the title if possible
  • At the beginning of the article, preferably in the first paragraph
  • In the subheadings
  • Multiple in the body of the text
  • As description and alt attributes in images

There are also other factors that contribute to good findability:

  • The use of internal and external links
  • Sufficient text length

Yoast SEO helps you to keep an eye on all these factors and warns you if something is not implemented.

Much more important, however, is the function of being able to set the SEO title and the meta description with the help of Yoast. These are the elements that are shown to you in the Google search and thus the first parts of text that potential readers see of your side. A good formulation of these texts is therefore very important.

Why Yoast SEO of all places?

There are numerous WordPress plugins that will help you with search engine optimization. So why do we use Yoast SEO of all places? First of all, for the simple reason that this tool is so incredibly convenient and easy to use. It is simply the best SEO plugin for WordPress right now. This can also be seen in the fact that Yoast SEO is clearly the market leader with more than five million installations worldwide. This ensures regular updates and updates.

4 steps to a perfectly optimized blog post

Now let's go through step by step how to optimize a blog post with the help of Yoast.

Step 1: define the keyword

Define what your keyword is and enter it in the field provided.

Step 2: Write and insert text

Ideally, you have already written your text in Word or another word processing program and had a second person proofread it. At best, you have also made sure that you are using your keyword in the right places when you wrote it. Insert this text in WordPress, define subheadings and - if possible - place images in the text. In addition, define the featured image and assign a short, descriptive URL that should also contain the keyword.

Step 3: Define SEO Title and Meta Description

Enter the SEO title and the meta description in the field provided. Make sure that both are the correct length. Yoast supports you with a colored bar that shows whether the texts are too long or too short.

Step 4: review Yoast's analysis

Now scroll down further and see if you meet all of the criteria suggested by Yoast. The tool shows this in a traffic light system with red, orange or green dots. If there are problems (red points) or opportunities for improvement (orange point), you should try to change them accordingly. If all the requirements are met, i.e. all symbols are green, you have done everything right.

Social media optimization with Yoast

In addition to search engine optimization, Yoast also offers the option of defining the title, image and description of the text for social media posts. For example, the title for Facebook does not necessarily have to contain the keyword and the description can also be better adapted to the target group.

Optimization of readability

For some time now, Yoast has also been analyzing the texts with regard to their legibility. The plug-in defines readability based on factors such as sentence and paragraph length, the level of difficulty of the text, the use of passive constructions or transitional words.

We advise you to view these criteria as recommendations and less as instructions to be followed strictly. Especially in a business environment, the level of difficulty of texts can be a little higher. In addition, it is not entirely clear to what extent the criteria on which the analysis is based are individually adapted to the different languages. The recommendations may fit better with English texts.

Other useful features of Yoast

Yoast has other practical features that we cannot name all at this point. I would like to mention one more function that we use frequently: The possibility of protecting a page from being listed in the search engines with the help of Meta Robots indexes such as “nofollow” and “noindex”. This can always be useful if you only want to make content on a page accessible to a certain group of users without using password protection.

Last but not least, the note that there is a premium version of Yoast that, for example, sets up automatic redirects as soon as URLs on a page change.
