Entrepreneurship in the context of higher education is becoming more and more important and must be addressed emphatically in everyday university life in order to allow a sustainable, entrepreneurial university to take shape. The involvement of all stakeholders in a process of forming common, transparent networks, focusing on interdisciplinarity and imparting entrepreneurial competence are cornerstones in order to make the vision of an entrepreneurially thinking and acting university a reality. Building on the empirical survey on entrepreneurship & start-up culture at the TH Köln, a further survey was carried out in the winter semester 2017/18 with regard to the students who were already self-employed at the TH Köln. The aim of the survey is to examine the types of start-ups of the students as well as to collect information on types of financing, hurdles, start-up climate and targeted support options by the TH Köln in order to further strengthen the start-up culture at the TH Köln.
The TH Köln has positioned itself in its transfer strategy 2025 to promote business start-ups and entrepreneurship education. For this positioning, it is important to determine the status quo of the current start-up culture at TH Köln. The present study examines the following questions in particular: How many students are already self-employed? How many are interested in starting a business? Which offers that the TH Köln already provides are known and which additional offers are desired? Do the students feel adequately informed and what suggestions do they have for establishing and promoting the start-up culture at TH Köln?
