What would happen if everyone was honest

"The skin of the earth" What if we didn't have our floor?

Without floors - nothing to eat ...

Or to put it another way: soils make our nutrition possible in the first place. They are the basis of all plant growth. And plants: they are the basis of our diet. Somewhere in the food chain there is always someone vegetarian - and meat eaters don't get their steak without animal feed.

Without floors - nothing to drink ...

When water seeps through the soil towards the groundwater, pollutants are filtered out of the water and stick everywhere. This process goes so far and is so intense that the result is drinking water quality! Brilliant! Oh yes and vital for us. Because what else should we drink?

Without floors - nothing to save ...

Like a Swiss cheese! More than half of the soil mass consists of holes and pores. This is why soils can store water so well. And that's why there is not always flood with every heavy rain. Most of the water is stored in the soil and goes back into the atmosphere via the plants. This means that soils are also indispensable climate regulators in their region.

Without floors - nothing to breathe ...

Absolutely! Imagine if soils were unable to store carbon. That would be bad! Because soils not only allow plants to grow that produce oxygen, soils also contain more CO2 than all of the above-ground biomass. Knowing this is extremely important when thinking about climate protection. However, as with any storage medium, the storage space is limited and it depends on the type of soil. Soils with a high proportion of humus, for example, naturally store more CO2 than other soils.

Without floors - nothing to smile about ...

The Walking Dead…? Maybe they really do exist, the zombies, walkers & Co. Dead organic material would have to go somewhere if the soil were not able to absorb it and break it down into its original components, which in turn serve animals and plants as a source of energy . That is, if you want to put it romantically, the famous cycle of life. Joking aside: no zombies! Without this cycle, life on this planet would simply not be possible. It would be pretty full by now if not a single person, a single mosquito, a single daisy would be decomposed at the end of its life ... But the problem would not only be the unimaginable mass of organic material. For the following generations of plants and organisms, the life energy would simply be missing.

Without floors - nothing to live with ...

There are more organisms in a handful of earth than there are people on earth. A beautiful picture and really blatant when you consider this fact. As the "skin of the earth", soils make up the largest living space on our planet. They promote biodiversity in an incomparable way. The interplay of the organisms that are inside them has not yet been fully explored. There are numerous living beings under the earth that we cannot even begin to explain and name. We still know so little. That is why the life inside our floors is still a mysterious realm for us.
