The largest realtor associations - admission requirements and rules

The Austrian Association of the Real Estate Industry (ÖVI) and the Immobilienring IR Austria (IR) are the two largest interest groups for real estate agents in Austria.

Immobilienring IR Austria

The real estate ring based in St. Pölten was founded in 2007 and emerged from the Real Estate Exchange Association Austria (IVA). The association currently has more than 400 members and 80 locations in Austria. He describes himself as an independent network of leading, independent Austrian real estate trustees.

The general admission requirements for brokers:

  • at least five years of brokerage
  • fixed office location
  • Broker license
  • Liability insurance against financial loss
  • Commitment to a code of ethics for brokers

The association rules are based on the Real Estate Agents Act (MaklerG) and the Real Estate Ordinance 1996 (IMV) as well as the special rules of professional conduct in the real estate industry

The Austrian Association of the Real Estate Industry (ÖVI)

The ÖVI has existed since 1979 and is based in Vienna. The aim of the voluntary association for licensed real estate brokers, property managers and property developers is, according to its own statements, to represent the interests of the more than 440 members.

The general admission requirements for brokers:

  • Business license as a broker
  • Liability insurance against financial loss
  • Commitment to the ÖVI code of honor

The ÖVI requires its members to act in accordance with the association's statutes and to adhere to the ÖVI code of ethics. This includes the following obligations:

  • customer focus
  • demonstrable education and training
  • objective market and property information
  • transparent and understandable order design
  • Information of the client in the case of the sole agency contract
