According to Statista, there have been around 24.2 million golfers in the US alone since 2018. The World Golf Foundation estimates that approximately $ 84.1 billion is pumped into the US economy through golf each year.
In a CNN interview, World Golf Foundation Chairman Steve Mona said the golf industry is bigger than spectator sports and the performing arts combined.

Tony Korologos, also known as the media guru behind Hooked on Golf Blog, started blogging in 2004 because he had a real passion for the game. His best friend suggested blogging about it and the rest, as they say, is history.
As one of the earliest golf blogs in 11 years, Tony posted approximately 5,000 golf posts and over 20,000 photos related to the game. Tony took some time out of his busy blogging schedule to share a few tips with WHSR readers.

Tony has an excellent point with this advice. Darren Rowse at ProBlogger often offers tips to new bloggers on how to improve their website traffic and make money blogging. Rowse divided some pointers into 13 tips to help your blog stand out from the crowd. His two top tips? Choose a unique topic and develop a voice that is different from others.
Tips for success
When asked what makes his blog successful, Tony had a few things that he believes will contribute to his success.
Hard work. Attention to detail. Good photos. Have a rock and roll edge. Not being politically correct. Know how to spell.
These may sound like simple things that anyone can do, but you need to do these things consistently over and over again. New bloggers often give up when they don't see immediate success, but it can take months, and sometimes years, to see the effects.
In his How to Start a Blog, Jerry Low shares a story about his first attempt at making money online. Although this attempt was unsuccessful, he kept trying until he found the right niche and found a topic that needed to be covered and to monetize it.
Tony Korologos told us, "Blogs are not successful because they are blogs."
You need to invest time, energy, research, and a lot more into a blog to be successful.
Armchair Golf Blog
Neil Sagebiel, author and blogger of the Armchair Golf Blog, also shared some tips to share with our readers.
Neil met great golfers like Jack Fleck through his blog. He then spoke to many golf legends such as Errie Ball, Billy Casper and Doug Sanders. He told these stories in his book Draw in the Dunes: The 1969 Ryder Cup and the Goal That Shocked the World.
When Neil started his blog in 2005, his goal was simple. He just wanted to learn about blogging.
The decision to play golf was secondary at the time - a sport and a subject that I had known since my youth. The fact that this turned into something significant was definitely a surprise.
Neil's approach was smart for a number of reasons. At first he concentrated on writing about what he knew and what he knew well. Second, he focused on learning his craft and blogging in general.
Tips for success
Learning your craft is absolutely essential if you want to stand out from the competition. For example, one of the first things you want to master is how to get and keep your readers' attention.
When asked why finding a unique angle for blogging is important, Neil shared this advice:
For one, there are a whole lot more blogs out there these days, so you need a unique niche or voice to stand out. My feeling is that having a certain personality and approach to blogging helps build a readership and why people keep coming back. I think readers will feel like they are getting to know you and enjoying what you are saying on your blog.
Neil is right. This is another reason why it's important to highlight blogging in the long run. Over time, readers will get to know you. They understand your writing style, what topics you might be covering, and your unique sense of humor. Like people in real life, it takes time to get to know each other.
If you just take one look at Neil's blog, there are a few things that make it a blog readers will want to return to. Its navigation is clear and simple. The reader can clearly see which books are available from Neil, learn more about him, or contact him.
Another smart thing Neil is doing is allowing readers to sign up for RSS feed updates and receive news about what he publishes. It's as simple as entering your email address and clicking "Subscribe". He also has his Twitter follow link in the front and in the middle. He also says that the secret to his success is:
Just stick to it, for one. I kept adding and writing about golf. I also think my voice and personality are coming through, that I have a sense of fun and love for the game.
How do i start?
1. Find your niche
There are numerous golf blogs. So if you want one you need to:
- Find a unique niche that is not or insufficiently covered.
- Find your voice. How do you write differently from others? Are you serious? Funny? Sarcastic?
- Study your competition. If you plan to write about golfing for children, check out the blogs to see what they are doing. What is not covered and how can you better cover it?
Once you've figured out the focus of your blog, everything else should fit together. You also want to decide your mission with the blog. Do you want to monetize it? Reach readers? What's your overall goal?
2. Set up the blog
Here are the general steps for creating a blog from scratch.
- Choose a domain name
- Select your web host and buy it (see above) Scala-Hosting or TMD-Hosting - they are affordable and very reliable.
- Point your domain DNS to your web host
- Install WordPress on your host
- Log into WordPress and choose a pre-made theme for your blog
- install essential plugins (i.e. software to improve the security and performance of your blog - basic ones are usually available for free).
- Write your post

There are many ways to monetize your golf blog (or any blog, really).
You can use some or all of these, but it's a good idea to only add one new thing at a time. See how much time the thing is taking and how your time is paying off, then decide to keep it and add more or to throw it away and try something different.
- Write a book and sell it. You can sell it on your blog and also sell it on sites like Amazon with their self-publishing platforms.
- Video cassette lessons and sell as a package.
- Create a member's area with really unique content. To access these articles, readers must pay a small membership fee.
- Add affiliate links. Since this is golf, you should look for affiliate programs that get paid to sell golf items. Be careful here, however. Make sure you have tried and liked the product, otherwise you could lose the trust of your readers.
- Accept private ads. Is there a local golf course that would like to advertise on your website?
These are just a few of the ways you can use to monetize your blog. There are also the typical AdSense ads and Amazon links. You can even sell your blog for a profit.
In fact, many sports-related websites have scored relatively high scores in the resale market. GarageGymPro, a primarily content-only blog, sold at an incredible price of over $ 110,000 while BowGrid, a younger site, picked up over $ 7,500.
